Joyce Arditti, White Lotus Certified
Yoga means “union” or oneness. Traditionally, the practice of yoga was seen as a way to connect with the divine. In modern times, the focus is often on the more down-to-earth benefits of yoga, including improved physical fitness, mental clarity, greater self-understanding, stress management, weight control, and general well-being. Today, most yoga practices in the West focus on the physical postures called "asanas," breathing exercises called "pranayama," and meditation. Spirituality, however, is a strong underlying theme to most practices. The beauty of yoga is in its versatility, allowing practitioners to focus on the physical, psychological, or spiritual, or a combination of all three. I teach a nondogmatic, vinyasa style of yoga. “Vinyasa” means “to flow” in Sanskrit and such a style emphasizes the connection between the breath and asana. At its deepest level, yoga transforms you by generating energy and vitality, and opening physical and mental blocks that limit potential. Sunday “Total Flow”, 4:00-5:30PMThis 90 minute class is suitable for all levels, although it is helpful if the student has had some exposure to yoga prior to attendance. “Total Flow” offers a graceful linking of the poses and breath. The practice is a dynamic form of vinyasa and incorporates a series of sun salutations, standing poses, gentle backbends, inversions, and unwinding postures. Pranayama and deep relaxation is included. Fees: $14.00 drop-in or 5 classes for $60.00. All fees are payable directly to the instructor prior to class. Class held at The Center of Dance, 215 Draper Road (corner of College and Draper, 2nd floor). Mats and props are provided, although owning your own is recommended. Students need to fill out a one-time registration form which can be downloaded from the Center of Dance website (www.thecenterofdance.com). Registration forms are also available at the studio. The $30 registration fee is waived for yoga students. Private InstructionPrivate sessions arranged by appointment. Private sessions can be adapted to suit your individual needs. Aromatherapy may be requested in conjunction with private yoga sessions. About JoyceJoyce A. Arditti, Ph.D. has 22 years of teaching experience in higher education as a family sociologist.
